Open the registration deadline for the Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka Fair of 2021. This is the ninth edition. From its first edition in 2013 to date, about 6,000 young people between 12 and 18 have participated in the Elhuyar Science Fair. In total, 900 research projects or technological projects have been carried out, of which about 700 works have been presented at the Elhuyar Science Fair organized in the Plaza Nueva de Bilbao.

Elhuyar invites young people between 12 and 18 years of age from Euskal Herria and its professors to develop scientific and technological projects, since Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka is an initiative of scientific projects developed by young people, with the aim of allowing them to live internally scientific research and technological development, and all the centers of Euskal Herria are invited to participate with young people from the ESO and the Bachillerato.

The group will work on the theme decided by the youth groups: asking, researching, designing, constructing and living new experiences. The result of the work will be both a research project and a technological project. The central event of Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka will be held in June: Large face-to-face market in Plaza Nueva de Bilbao, if health circumstances permit.

In order to help young people who have close references to the professional world of the STEM, Elhuyar has already gathered a large group of researchers from the Basque Science and Technology Network to advise them. In fact, more than 200 researchers have targeted the Elhuyar Science Fair of 2021 as youth advisors. Of these, 55% are women and 45% are men.

Thus, within their projects, young people will meet true science and technology professionals, share their adventures and experiences with them and accompany them in their work.

Course schedule

• From 1 to 31 January 2021: Pre-registration (form).
• From 1 February to 8 March 2021: Relationship with researchers (online).
• 8 March to 12 April 2021: Send project for the fair (form).
• May 2021: Analysis of the works by the jury and contact with the teams (online).
• 5 June 2021: The main fair of Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka, which, if circumstances allow, will be a face-to-face fair in Plaza Nueva de Bilbao.
• From June 2021: Prizes (trips abroad, training and stays in centers).

Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka has the financial support of the Basque Government, the Government of Navarra, the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), the City of Bilbao, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and Erabi, as well as the collaboration of the main Basque universities and research centres.

STEAM Euskadi Award

The Basque Government’s Department of Education delivered Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka on November 18, 2020 the STEAM Euskadi award as the most innovative educational project. Among the 133 projects submitted to the call, the methodology used, the results obtained, their innovative character and the improvements implemented were selected for STEAM.

Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka is the STEAM project fair developed by ESO and Bachillerato students. It offers experiences and opportunities related to science and technology, involving researchers in scientific education and paying particular attention to visibility for women.
