Amaia Esquisabel Alegria, Research Director of the Department of Education of the Basque Government, and Dña. Leire Cancio Orueta, Managing Director of Elhuyar, la Zientzia Azoka 2018.

The presentation was also attended by the young Sodueña Maitane Alonso Monasterio, winner of the last edition of the Science Fair and the Exporecerca Jove of Barcelona, who explained her experiences in the path of scientific projects. His narratives include:

  • Awareness of the importance of research among young people
  • Projects like Zientzia Azoka have aroused her passion for research and intends to continue on that path
  • That with projects like Zientzia Azoka has realized that leaving the theoretical activity and accommodating the experiences is beneficial and fun

This year there are two important novelties:

  1. Involvement of universities in two areas:
    1. Number of researchers enrolled in Zientzia Azoka to work with student groups (248 researchers)
    2. Response of the universities to the exhibition of projects in the area of researchers of the professional area that will be installed in the Plaza Nueva on the same day of the fair (12 projects exposed)
  2. Organize the work in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations, elaborating, analyzing and integrating these objectives in the projects, developing values that favor a more sustainable human development.

Fair in data

  • 313 young people will present 90 projects of 30 centers: girls 174 and boys 139
  • Also participating are 2 winning teams from the scientific fairs Exporecerca and Galiciencia de Barcelona
  • 66 ESO and 24 Baccalaureate groups in total
  • 68 groups from Bizkaia, 14 from Gipuzkoa, 4 from Navarra, 2 from Araba, 1 from extracurricular and 2 from other state fairs
  • The papers presented are divided into 12 different ESD on the theme and the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda

This year's Zientzia Azoka comes with a complete program. From 12:00 to 20:00 hours, young researchers will show at Plaza Nueva the research and technological projects developed during the course to respond to a challenge or issue.
