The Association of Biotechnology Companies in Spain, ASEBIO, has announced that a report of the television program Teknopolis has won the ASEBIO award in the category of Television and Radio. The report is titled “CRIPSR/Cas9, scissors to cut the genome”, issued in October last year at ETB, but can be seen at any time on the Teknopolis website.
The CRISPR/Cas9 technique has meant a true genetic revolution that allows replacing defective genes. One of the main pioneers of the technique, Juan Francisco Martínez Mojica, was interviewed by Teknopolis in the program that has now been awarded, as well as by researchers from the UPV/EHU who have begun to use this technique: Josean Rodríguez Pérez, Izortze Santín Gómez, and Ainara Castellanos Rubio.
The program was directed by Alaitz Ochoa of Eribe Aguirre and the animations were made by Guillermo Roa Zubia.
In the other categories have been awarded: The blogs “Diez mojones de transplants” by Jesús Méndez González, from the magazine Muy sano, and MicroBIO and El rincón de Pasteur by Ignacio López-Goñi. Finally, José Antonio López will receive the Merit Award.
