The television program Teknopolis, produced by Elhuyar, has received the VII. Tecnalia Journalism Award in the television section, at an event held on February 2 at the headquarters of AZTI-Tecnalia in Derio (Bizkaia). Elhuyar CEO Leire Cancio; EiTB CEO Maite Iturbe; Teknopolis CEO Nagore Rementeria; and program host Iñaki Leturia were present. Among the reasons that have led to rewarding Teknopolis stand out on the one hand the “15-year trajectory” of Teknopolis and on the other the “work of socialization of work in R+D+i, with a high scientific rigor and in a very informative way”. These mentions coincide with Elhuyar's objective: “We work to strengthen and build new areas for Basque in science, technology and society, with the aim of an active and critical Basque community.”

15 years of history of Teknopolis

Teknopolis is a scientific and technological outreach program that has been broadcast since 1999 at ETB. The research team of the program, made up of scientists and journalists, has six people, and makes reports on scientific and technological research carried out both in Euskal Herria and outside our fronters.Teknopolis is available on Saturdays: ETB1 at 13:20 h and ETB2 at 9:30 h. It is also available on the Teknopolis website: http://teknopolis.elhuyar.org.

The Tecnalia Journalism Award joins the long list of awards already received by Teknopolis. Some of the prizes to date are: Ikaslan Award of the Network of Public Vocational Training Centres (2014); Telenatura Award 2011 to the report "Zelatan" of Teknopolis (2011); first prize at the Asebio/Genoma España Awards for Communication and Biotechnology Outreach (2011); Best European TV Program in the Popular SAWARD Science Awards 2009. Accésit for the Journalism Award 2006 and Prize of the Department of Innovation of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia 2006.

The Teknopolis team thanked the sponsors of this season that “without them it would not be possible to hold the session”. This season's sponsors are: Department of Economic Development and Competitiveness of the Basque Government; Department of Education, Language, Politics and Culture of the Basque Government; Ente Vasco de la Energía (EVE), Tknika, UPV/EHU, Mondragon Unibertsitatea (MU) and Public University of Navarra (UPNA).

The director of Teknopolis, Nagore Rementeria, has shown her satisfaction for the whole team and has expressed the following: “It is an honor for us to receive this award, given the level of works awarded in previous editions.”

Elhuyar CEO Leire Cancio recalled the following: “The Tecnalia Journalism Award and the closure of the Basque Research website have arrived almost simultaneously. Well, today’s award shows us that Teknopolis’s socialization work, carried out over many years, is necessary and highly appreciated, and is a stimulus to progress.”

VII. Tecnalia Journalism Awards

Tecnalia Corporación Tecnológica, that is, the organization of the Tecnalia Journalism Award, is composed of AZTI-Tecnalia, NEIKER-Tecnalia and TECNALIA Research & Innovation. The aim of the Award is to recognize and reward the work of media professionals who promote and disseminate knowledge of research, innovation and technological development in public opinion, thus contributing to building a more innovative society.

The prize consists of four sections: written media, radio, television and internet. Each section has a prize of four thousand euros. The jury is composed of people of recognized prestige in the business, educational, technological and journalistic field. VII. in this edition, in addition to the prizes, four special mentions have been awarded.

The prize of the section of written media has gone to Elena de Arrieta Palacio for an article published in the newspaper Expansión economía (New technologies, the key to redefining the economy), and the radio award for Manuel Hernández Hurtado, for his report I+D+i for the change of production model of RNE in the program España vuelta y vuelta de RNE, and for Jerangugiang. The special mentions have been collected in the category of media written by Antonio Villarreal, for an article published in the supplement Innova+ of Vocento; in the radio section, for a report broadcast by Andrés Goñi in the program Graffiti of Radio Euskadi; in the television section, by Pilar Requena, Óscar Martínez, Jesús Marta and Stella Internet Rodríguez,
