Today Koldo Narbaiza Olaskoaga, councilor of Basque Country and Education of the City of Bilbao, Amaia Esquisabel Alegria, director of Research of the Department of Education of the Basque Government, and Leire Cancio Orueta, director general of Elhuyar, Zientzia Azoka 2017, presented at the Bilbao City Council.

The presentation also included students from IES Elorrio and ikastola Lauro de Loiu, who presented their work and experiences in the last edition.

This year's Zientzia Azoka comes with a complete program. From 12 noon to 9 pm, young researchers will show at Plaza Nueva the research and technological projects developed during the course to respond to a challenge or issue. The work done by young people throughout the year will be the protagonists. This edition has presented as novelty the space and workshops for the professional field. Among them, the ‘REC Music Laboratory’ stands out, which will continue after the awards ceremony: Music lab with PLAY, Las Tea Party DJ’s. This year's Zientzia Azoka is an offer aimed at the whole family.

  • Throughout the year, 1,150 young people aged 12 to 18 from 33 schools across the Basque Country have worked in 350 groups. Of these, 110 groups will present their work in Bilbao on Saturday.
  • Total 337 young people: 176 girls and 161 boys
  • 79 ESO and 26 Baccalaureate teams
  • Bizkaia (79 groups of 15 schools), Gipuzkoa (19 schools) and Navarra (3 schools)
  • National (Exporecerca and Galiciencia) and international (Mostra Nacional Portuguesa) winners: 3 groups
  • Thematic distribution of the works: 18 Biological Geology, 4 Energy, 12 Physical Chemistry, 10 Social Sciences, 1 Humanities, 32 Engineering Technology, 22 Environmental Ecology and 21 Health

It should be noted that although the Zientzia Azoka is organized by Elhuyar, the fair is held in collaboration with the Basque Science and Technology Network. In fact, young people are assisted by researchers from Ikerbasque, the UPV/EHU, the Public University of Navarra, Mondragon Unibertsitatea, the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Deusto and the Institute of Digit Technology.

And then, for young people to continue with their scientific experiences, the Euskaltel Konekta Foundation, Iberdrola, ERABI, Tecnalia Corporación Tecnológica, the alliance of technological centers IK4, CICNanogune, the Innovation Group TZBZ, the Technology Interpretation Center BTEK and the Planetarium of Pamplona will offer young people.

The main objective of this initiative is to work on young people's scientific and technological capacities, to awaken vocations and to bring people closer to the scientific and technological fields.
