The cultural capital San Sebastián 2006 presented today on the campus of San Sebastián of the UPV/EHU Behagunea, a website that collects opinions on the events organized by the cultural capital.

The Behagunea website, thanks to Elhuyar technology, automatically measures the continuity on the Internet and social networks of activities and events organized within the European Capital of Culture Donostia 2016. Collects and classifies the contents of thousands of news, opinion articles and messages, identifying the topics to which they correspond and pointing out whether those statements are positive, negative or neutral. This data is publicly available on the web in an attractive way, offering users a comfortable and intuitive navigation.

Clearly showing his opinions both for and against, Behagunea is the great thermometer of the acts. In addition, it offers the user the possibility to comment on a specific event on the website itself.

The technology used by the web is easily adaptable to other domains for use by any other organization or association.

Initiative based on a European project

The results of a European research project led by the IXA group (OpenNer project) in Behagunea have been collected and applied and, combining the feedback extraction technology developed by Elhuyar, an emerging and innovative application has been created in the cultural field.

The main characteristics of the Observatory are:

The system collects the real-time opinion of the projects carried out within the DSS2016EU initiative. Within 10 minutes of the publication of an opinion, it, linguistically processed and analyzed polarity (positive/negative opinion), is visible today.

- References are obtained from various sources thanks to the software created for this purpose. It is able to exploit newspapers, social networks and blogs.

- Advanced analysis of opinions. The system detects the polarity of the messages, identifying the topics indicated in the messages and their authors. A technology has been developed to analyze opinions adapted to the domain of DSS2016EU for 4 languages, including Basque.

- Advanced data visualization. The system collects the opinion on the projects within the DSS2016EU initiative, presents changes over time, identifies the most active authors and generates statistics on the data collected. The tool allows you to conveniently view all data using an advanced interactive display.

- Advanced monitoring system management. The manager has the possibility to configure both the themes and the sources to be monitored and has a specific statistical section. In addition, it offers the possibility to manually review the opinions received and correct the classification.

Event Assessment Tool

This developed bot or computer program is easily adaptable to other domains. Thus, any other cultural entity or association may use it, making appropriate adaptations, for the follow-up of its events, festivals or activities of daily life. In this way, Behagunea will provide new variables for the evaluation of cultural events and will offer data that can be incorporated into the usual information of the number or characteristics of the attendees.

Behind Behagunea is a technological solution fully in line with the philosophy of open systems. All technologies developed and used during the project are free software and are available on the network with free licenses.
