Elhuyar and the IKT group of Ikastolen Elkartea have jointly developed a system that allows you to read the contents of the website in different languages, and have premiered it on the website of Orioko Herri Ikastola. The automatic translator Elia de Elhuyar has ensured that all content can be received, as in Basque, in eight other languages.

In fact, the website of Orioko Herri Ikastola is written and developed entirely in Basque, but using the automatic translator Elia, located in a bar at the top of the web, you can read the contents of the website in Spanish, French, English, Catalan, Galician, Romanian, Urdu and Arabic.

Thus, the parents of the
ikastola community who do not know the Basque Country have at their disposal all the information that the ikastola offers through the web in their language. This tool offers the possibility to communicate with these families with ease and agility. Orioko Herri Ikastola has seen this step as a necessary advance for inclusion in today’s society, as it allows to provide/receive information in different maternal languages.

In this area,
Orioko Herri Ikastola has pioneered, as it is the first ikastola that offers the website in eight other languages. Other ikastolas have also been interested in inserting this system on their websites, and the IKT group of Ikastolen Elkartea is studying ways to respond to the demands of ikastolas. Ikastolen Elkartea also plans to include the automatic translator Elia on the websites of the Ikastolen Jaiak and on the portal ikastola.eus.

Auto Translator Elia
Elia is an automatic translator using artificial intelligence based technology. It is a system of automatic translation, quality and safe, created with the Basque language as the axis, and that has been a good tool to carry out this project.

The Elia translator, besides offering the possibility to use it from elia.eus, offers facilities to integrate it into any other application; an example of this is this project, in which a bar has been added that allows to instantly translate all the content of the web.

Cultural diversity group of Orioko Herri Ikastola
La Orioko Herri Ikastola is plural and surrounded by diverse cultures. The objective of ikastola is to offer resources to those who come to Euskal Herria to be Basque citizens, always respecting their original character, while trying to understand their contributions as a great wealth. To do so, they created the Multiculturalism Group, and sometimes they meet to contribute and mutually enrich each other around this area and to extend this vision to the community.

The Multiculturalism Group elaborates and works on proposals to improve, among other aspects, integration and inclusion, building interculturality and promoting participation. Enriching the web in Basque and in eight other languages is an example of this, as communication is key to achieving everything.
