The Department of Culture and Linguistic Policy of the Basque Government today presented a new range of tools to further promote the use of Basque. The presentation took place in the Tabakalera Center of Donostia and among the speakers was Josu Aztiria, head of the Language and Technology unit of Elhuyar.
Among the 13 resources presented, four have been developed by Elhuyar. On the one hand, the renewed version of the Elhuyar digital dictionary of the Euskadi.eus portal has been presented. It contains updates made until June 2017 in the Spanish-Basque dictionary of elhuyar.eus.
On the other hand, the new application of Elhuyar Hiztegiak has been presented. In this mobile application you can consult the Spanish-Basque, English-Basque and French-Basque dictionaries online and offline. Free versions for Android and iOS phones are available for download.
Today the Hiztegibar plugin has also been presented to consult various language resources in Chrome and Internet Explorer browsers.
Finally, the application of the publication Hizketa-ereduak. This service includes a series of dialogue models that citizens can use in their daily lives. Intuitively, the user can find proposals that can be useful, organized according to the circumstances.
In addition to these resources, Elhuyar has presented nine terminological dictionaries (available in Euskalterm): Traumatology; AIDS; Dependence; Transport and Logistics; Fairs, Congresses and Public Shows; Hunting and Fishing; Minerals; Social networks; and Telephony. Guided by UZEI, these dictionaries have been developed with experts from the area and approved by the Terminology Commission. Member of the commission, among others, Alfonso Mujika, member of Elhuyar.
