Eroski, Elhuyar and the UPV have launched a project to improve machine translation. Take part!
Automatic translators are increasingly used today, even to translate Spanish into Basque. However, as far as Basque is concerned, the results of these translators remain quite far from the results of human translators in general.
Improving these systemsgoes through the formation of the machines, in which we collaborate the research team Ixa of the UPV, Eroski Foundation and Elhuyar. In 2015 we launched a three-year experimental project to improve the open source automatic translator Matxin ES-EU (Spanish-Basque).
The first step was the adaptation of the system to the food area, specifically to the Eroski Consumer project (www.consumer.es). And we have put on the network a collaborative platform to correct the translations that the system proposes. Through this platform, anyone can participate in the project by directing translations. Thus, corrected translations will be published on the consumer.eus portal and thanks to the amendments received the automatic system will be learned. Finally, we will get an automatic translator with better proposals and we will go a step further in machine translation into Basque.
The more people involved in the project, the more corrections we will collect and the more materials we will have to improve the system. That is why we address you, that Basque Internet user.
If you dare, enter consumer.elhuyar.eus and start correcting the texts. There you will find all the information.
