The Elhuyar dictionaries website has been renewed in form and content and offers more query options.

Since we put on the net in 2013, we have completed and permanently renewed dictionaries. Now, taking advantage of, among other things, the contributions obtained in the partner campaign we made in March 2018, we have made a new wave of innovations.

So far the bilingual dictionaries EU-ES, EU-FR and EU-EN of Elhuyar could be consulted on the web. From now on you can perform simultaneous searches in other dictionaries made by Elhuyar: Encyclopedic Dictionary of Science and Technology (ZTH), Laneki Dictionary, Railway Dictionary, Automotive Dictionary and Wood Dictionary. Once the search is done, the results of the general bilingual dictionaries appear in the center of the screen, to see the information of the other dictionaries we must click on the links in the left column.

In this central column we can also see examples of Elhuyar's web corpus by clicking on "See more examples".

On the other hand, in Elhuyar we have incorporated more linguistic technologies into the search system and lemmatizes user queries. Thus, if we consult declined words or conjugated verbs, the system tells us the slogan behind it and therefore the dictionary entry. For example, looking for “use”, the dictionary leads us to the “use” entry.

In addition, as so far, if the searched word is not in the dictionary, it will give us similar alternatives in four languages to ensure that we have correctly written the word and that we have selected the corresponding language.

As so far, we can propose the introduction of words that are not in dictionaries by clicking on the "proposal" option.

The search box itself and the possibilities of the environment have also changed image. Thus, we can select in a dropdown the language in which the word query is found (Basque, Spanish, French or English) and the place in which we want to search (in entries, translations or examples).

We can use the microphone for verbal consultations in Basque instead of in writing.

And we can enable/disable the asterisk to indicate if we want to show all the words that we are looking for exactly or that start the same.

If the languages on the right are colored, the system will show us the benefits of those languages. To select a single language we can disable the other languages by clicking on it.

Usage data is proof that the web of Elhuyar dictionaries is a very useful resource. In 2018, web users have conducted more than 46 million queries and the number of users continues to grow. We hope that all these innovations will help us all.
