The main objective of the collaboration agreement recently signed between the Basque Institute of Agricultural Research and Development (NEIKER) and the Elhuyar Foundation is to promote Basque in the research of the primary sector and in the activity of NEIKER.
One of the planned actions is to reward the research carried out in Basque related to the primary sector. To do this, NEIKER and Elhuyar will select an expert jury composed of important friends from the primary sector and the Basque sector.
Another objective of the agreement is to develop a dictionary that collects the terminology of the primary sector. The areas of work of both centers are undoubtedly complementary to create a dictionary that regulates the use of the terms related to agriculture and livestock, among others.
The primary sector is rich in terms and expressions that must meet methodologically and following strict semantic controls. Elhuyar will design the vocabulary, collect different linguistic expressions and manage the contents to make it a reference of the technical terminology of the primary sector. For its part, NEIKER will provide its scientific and technical knowledge of the sector.
Through this agreement, NEIKER will become a partner of the Elhuyar Foundation and will form part of its Board of Trustees to work for the integration of science and technology in society and the normalization of Basque.
According to the agreement, Elhuyar will advise on the actions that NEIKER will implement to encourage the use of Basque in its organization. Finally, the Foundation will review the contents in Basque and English of the website of the agricultural research institute.
