Xuxen 5, new spelling and grammar checker in Basque

- The spellchecker database has been renewed, taking into account the latest changes in the dictionaries of Hiztegi Batua and Elhuyar.
- Make proposals according to the preferences of the Unified Dictionary.
- We have renewed the grammatical rules to make updated grammatical proposals.
- New plugins have been prepared to integrate the latest version of the corrector in different systems.

Xuxen today presented the new spelling and grammatical corrector 5 at Elhuyar headquarters. The new corrector has been detailed by the IXA Group and Elhuyar of the University of the Basque Country. Three people participated:

The first spell checker in Basque was created in Xuxe for two decades. This system, created in collaboration between linguists and computer engineers, was a revolution for those of us who write texts in Basque by computer.

Since its birth in the initial Xuxe, several versions of it have been incorporated into the network (for Microsoft Office, OpenOffice.org and LibreOffice, web browsers, Adobe Indesign…) and, in addition to detecting spelling errors, Xuxen has learned to make grammatical proposals.

However, changes in computing are very fast and programs and applications are constantly updated. Changes also occur in our language: Euskaltzaindia elaborates new rules, creates new words…

Therefore, Xuxen has also been updated. In 2014 we incorporated all updates to the xuxen.eus website, making the most recent versions available to society to date.

We have made a new leap. The Ixa and Elhuyar Group have put it on the Xuxen 5 network for free download (xuxen.eus/versions).

We have included in the database of the first spelling checker in Basque the latest changes in the Unified Dictionary of Euskaltzaindia and Elhuyar dictionaries, and we have renewed the grammatical rules so that the last corrector created for Microsoft Office makes updated spelling, lexical and grammatical proposals.

Xuxen 5, when writing, underlines in red our spelling mistakes: zihur, xagu, jarduerak, akanpaleku, konbidatu… And he proposes how to correct them.

On the other hand, he emphasizes the words in green or blue in those cases in which, being correct, Euskaltzaindia prefers another form, such as embroidery, background, mixing, ainitz… And Euskaltzaindia proposes to us in the Unified Dictionary the counter-benefits that he prefers instead of those words.

Finally, he proposes to correct some grammatical errors in green or blue: I am hungry, we will see…

Xuxen 5 is ready to use Microsoft Office in the latest ones (up to Office 2013). Therefore, if you download it to our computer, we can take advantage of all the fixes and language proposals mentioned when we are writing a text in Word, for example. And we will also have the opportunity to complete the user's dictionary to use it along with Xuxen 5.

In addition, integration plugins have been renewed on all systems to make updated spelling corrections:

And of course, we've also revamped the data on the xuxen.eus web so that when we put the text we want to correct in the text box on the home page you can make the corrections and proposals updated.
