The March issue of the magazine Elhuyar Zientzia eta Teknologia is the last one we have published as a monthly newsletter, which will be published every three months. It has been a tough decision for the Elhuyar Foundation to modify the publication frequency of the journal (quarterly instead of monthly).

It is no coincidence that our journals and entities (Elhuyar) have the same name. The magazine Elhuyar Zientzia eta Teknologia was the first project of the cultural association Elhuyar. The magazine of then was not the one we know today: it was more technical and amateur, modern and professional.In 1986 began its career the scientific and technological magazine in Basque. Many things have changed since then: people, the environment, society itself... The magazine Elhuyar, for its part, has continued firm, but changing: incorporating new contents and sections, adapting the design, updating the way of disseminating, working closeness to readers... all in order to offer the most interesting information possible.

Society has evolved in recent years: paper publications are in decline, and new reading habits take us to the Internet. Readers of Elhuyar Zientzia eta Teknologia also resort to this path: 1,475 subscribers and 23,000 visitors in 2015.

In a difficult economic context, in which we are less endowed with resources (reduction of sales and subsidies), it is even more urgent to introduce cuts in Elhuyar magazine, as in other areas of Elhuyar's activity. But we will not fall into despair and, taking advantage of the change, we reaffirm our commitment to the magazine Elhuyar Zientzia eta Teknologia, regardless of the support of the publication (paper or internet).

Our mission is to disseminate topics of science, technology and innovation through studies, collaboration with different media, conferences, seminars, children's and youth activities and, above all, of own tools of scientific dissemination of Elhuyar (television program Teknopolis, radio program Norteko Ferrokarrilla, web zientzia.eus…). Our objective is to make known to the public the research activity, putting in value the work that is done in Euskal Herria, in order to increase the scientific culture of society.

We do all this in Basque, of course. Those pioneers who began to work on technical texts in Basque took the first steps in Elhuyar's career, and there we continue, always forward.
